From the beginning, EM Cosmetics has formulated all of its products with skin-loving and efficacious ingredients that help not only nourish and protect your skin, but give you a flawless and healthy finish. EM’s founder, Michelle Phan, has always been an advocate of skincare as an essential first step for healthy, radiant looks, which is why we are so excited to launch our very first skincare innovation! Michelle often travels around the world to work on formula development and testing which leaves her face, lips, and hands extremely dry and irritated from the frequent washing. She felt desperate for a skincare solution that was deeply hydrating and soothing, while being mess-free and easy to use. Meet our two new hydrating essentials, Face Cuddle Moisture Balm and Lip Cushion Nourishing Balm!
Face Cuddle Ingredient story
Face Cuddle Moisture Balm is formulated with star ingredients such as Squalane, Sacha Inchi Oil and Coffee Seed Oil that not only hydrate, but help to retain your skin's natural moisture barrier. Let’s break them down.
Squalane
Category: Emollient
What it is: A hydrogenated version of squalene, which is a compound produced naturally by our sebaceous glands. Emollients are occlusive agents that coat your skin with a thin film, sealing in water and retaining moisture. Unlike some other emollients though, squalane has a super small molecule structure which makes it easier for the skin to absorb, without any thick residue feeling.
What it does: Derived from olive oil, this ingredient creates a protective coating on the skin, which helps improve moisture balance and elasticity.
Sacha Inchi Oil
Category: Antioxidant
What it is: This fast-absorbing oil hailing from a plant in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, is one of the richest natural sources of omega fatty acids in the world. Traditionally, it was used to treat things like insect bites, small cuts, and even burns, which are at increased risk of infection in tropical climates - due to its naturally occurring antibacterial properties.
What it does: Sacha Inchi’s high omega 3 content helps moisturize, smooth, and protect the skin. Not only does it help to hydrate, but it prevents transepidermal water loss. This ingredient has been used by indigenious people for centuries to help soften and moisturize their skin.
Coffee Seed Oil
Category: Antioxidant
What it does: Coffee arabica is a plant native to areas, such as Africa, that have high altitudes and warm climates. The concentrated oil is extracted from green coffee beans and is then cold pressed. This oil contains high levels of vitamin E, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that offer nourishment and protection. Coffee Seed Oil is a popular ingredient in Brazil and has also been used by indigenous people as a skin conditioner!
What it does: When applied topically, Coffee Seed Oil adds a protective layer to contribute to healthier and smoother skin. It can also aid in preventing transepidermal water loss and help retain your skin’s natural moisture barrier.
Lip Cushion Ingredient Story
Our Lip Cushion Nourishing balm will be your new go to lip product! Aside from its beautiful glossy finish, it also has amazing ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane, Vitamin E and Jojoba Oil to help moisturize and protect.
Hyaluronic Acid
Category: Humectant
What it is: A water-attracting molecule that retains 1,000 times its weight in water. Our cells naturally produce Hyaluronic acid which helps maintain moisture levels, but as we age and are exposed to environmental aggressors our levels start to decrease.
What it does: The gold standard in hydration - this miracle worker rehydrates skin, retains moisture, reduces fine lines and makes your skin feel soft and supple. Plus, Hyaluronic Acid is great for all skin types— even sensitive or acne prone skin!
Vitamin E
Category: Antioxidant
What it is: Vitamin E is an oil-soluble antioxidant that is a natural component of healthy skin. Vitamin E is found in certain foods such as avocado and pumpkin, and in many skincare products under its chemical compound name, tocopherol.
What it does: When applied topically it offers significant antioxidant properties to help defend from pollution and other environmental stressors, as well as protect the skin’s moisture barrier.
Jojoba Oil
Category: Emollient
What it is: An oil that is extracted from the seeds of a Simmondsia chinensis plant, a shrub, which is found in southern Arizona, southern California, and northwestern Mexico. The seeds contain this incredible plant oil that’s a rich source of fatty acids that offer numerous healing properties.
What it does: Helps to keep your skin moisturized by sealing it with a protective barrier to keep it from losing moisture. Jojoba oil also contains natural forms of vitamin E, which help your skin fight environmental stressors.
Ways to use
Aside from being our first skin care innovation, this is also our most versatile product yet! Face Cuddle Moisture balm can be used in many different ways— any time, any place.
Face
As the last step in your skincare routine, glide onto your face to moisturize and soothe skin, and prevent water loss so you look healthy and hydrated all day long. Face Cuddle can be used as a primer under makeup for those who have normal to dry skin for a smoother application. As well as on top of makeup for a luminous and radiant glow. It can also be used at night as a moisturizing sleep mask! Apply before bed and wake up with supple, dewy and healthy-looking skin.
Body
An easy and mess free balm that can be applied anywhere on your body where you need an added dose of moisture. Great to use after showering to replenish and moisturize. We love using this on our elbows throughout the day to keep them smooth and hydrated!
Neck
The neck is one of the most neglected parts of our bodies when it comes to moisturizing, but happens to be one of the areas that need it the most! The skin on your neck is very thin and unlike the rest of your body does not naturally produce oil. Use Face Cuddle to hydrate your neck to keep it moisturized and to help prevent aging.
Hands + Cuticles
Moisturizing your hands with Face Cuddle will help to keep them hydrated and prevent water loss. In today’s climate, with frequent hand washing and colder temperatures it is more important than ever to moisturize throughout the day. If you tend to get dry or cracked cuticles, Face Cuddle will be your new best friend! Apply directly to your cuticles to help restore and repair.
